Mary Grace Goodwin, 86, of Burlington, died at 1:35 AM Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at her home in Burlington with her family.

Born October 6, 1922, in Newell, IA, she was the daughter of George Oscar and Rosina Estella Splitgerber Schofield. On July 1, 1939, she married Gordon Ray Goodwin in Olathe, KS. He died September 25, 1988.
|
She had worked at Midwest Biscuit, Campbell Chain, Sylvania, and retired from IRC.
Nana, as she was known to her grandchildren, was an avid gardener, enjoyed canning, sewing, animals, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, Ervin Goodwin of Pontoosuc, IL; two daughters, Brenda (David) Huston of Burlington, and Bonnie (Robert) Hill of Terlinqua, TX; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Oscar (Blanche) Schofield of Kansas City, MO,and Lester (Elizabeth) Schofield of Clinton, IA; and over 100 nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, two grandsons, and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be from noon until 5:00 PM Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM, Friday, June 19, at St. Luke United Church of Christ.
The Funeral Service for Mrs. Goodwin will be 10:30 AM Friday, June 19, 2009, at St. Luke United Church of Christ with Reverend Vicki J. Engelmann officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
The Hass-Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
