Susan Lucille Amenell Griffith, 65, of West Burlington, died at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 22, 2010, at her home.

Born April 3, 1944, in Burlington, she was the beloved daughter of Glen T. and Catherine Ellen Shortridge Amenell. On June 6, 1962, she married the man of her dreams, William Roger Griffith in Oquawka, IL.

Susan "Sue" a devoted Christian was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church (WELS) and used her journey with cancer to reach out and share the love and forgiveness of Jesus. Sue had many jobs thru the years, but after caring for her mother-in-law, Frances, she decided to go to college and become an LPN. She loved nursing and worked at OSF St. Francis Care Center, Burlington Care Center and Hope Haven. She retired in 1990. She enjoyed being a member of the swimming "Antique Mermaids", and collecting cookie jars, but her greatest joys were her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include her loving husband, Bill; her mother, Catherine Dietsch; two sons, William (Kashi) Griffith of Solon and Mark Griffith of West Burlington; one daughter, Susie (Alan) Edmonds of Mediapolis; five grandchildren, Wesley Shane Ewing, Sarah Kate Edmonds, Sawyer John Edmonds, Wyatt Alan Edmonds and Autumn Lee Griffith; two brothers, Sidney Amenell of Burlington and Timothy Dietsch of Council Bluff; one sister, Molly Curry of Burlington; three neices and six nephews; and her lifelong friend, Sharon Wiley of West Burlington. She was preceeded in death by her father, one brother, Jerry Amenell and one niece, Lori Griffith.

As per the request of Mrs. Griffith, cremation has been accorded. There will be no visitation. The Memorial Service for Mrs. Griffith will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2420 Agency St. Burlington with the Reverend Russel G. Kobs officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Our Savior Lutheran Church, Great River Hospice, and the Special Needs Foundation of Des Moines County. The Hass-Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
