William H. Lucas, 87, of Burlington, formerly of Fort Madison, died at 7:50 PM Sunday, April 18, 2010, at the Great River Medical Center - Klein Center in Burlington.

Born April 8, 1923, in Blue Diamond, KY, he was the son of Jerry M. and Virgie Banks Lucas. On August 4, 1944, he married Katie Nell Booker in Hernando, MS. She died October 30, 1997. |
William had worked in Marketing & Distribution as marketing manager at the Chevron Chemical Company for 28 years before retiring in 1982.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during World War II from 1942 until 1945 with the rank of Sergeant in the Pacific Theatre.
He was a member of the Lions Club in Fort Madison. He was active in sports, and was a talented basketball player as a youth and as a young adult. At the age of 72 he made a half-court basket at Carver Hawkeye Arena in a contest sponsored by Hy-Vee. He was an avid golfer and was active in league bowling. He loved to work outside in his yard.

Survivors include one daughter, Judy Lucas of Fort Madison; four grandchildren, Amy, Andy, Katie, and Meredith; two great-grandsons, Ryan and Aaron; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. |
As per the request of Mr. Lucas, cremation has been accorded.
There will be no visitation.
The Graveside Committal Service and Inurnment for Mr. Lucas will be 11:00 AM Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Memory Hill Gardens in Bartlett, TN. |
