Marjorie Belle Fitzsimmons, 90, of Danville, died at 2:00 AM Sunday, June 6, 2010, at Bickford Cottage in Burlington of complications of a brain tumor.

Born July 9, 1919, in Danville, IA, she was the daughter of Everett and Maude Wick Parrott. On August 16, 1941, she married John Joseph Fitzsimmons in Danville. He died December 1, 1985.

Marjorie was a teacher for the Burlington School System at Salter, Washington and Perkins schools. She was also a senior directing editor of elementary reading for Scott, Foresman and Co. She retired after 32 years. While at Scott, Foresman and Co., Marjorie guided artists in creating illustrations to accompany the "Dick, Jane and Sally" stories that many of us encountered as first graders.
She graduated from Danville High School as Valedictorian, Burlington Community College, Iowa State Teachers College and received her master’s degree from the University of Chicago.
She attended Danville United Methodist Church and a member of PEO, DAR, Des Moines County Historical Society, Burlington Golf Club, SCORE, IAAP Restoration committee and the Des Moines County Humane Society. She loved antiques, glassware, her cats and family history.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Patricia West, Jim Parrott, Tom Parrott, Barbara Hayward, Michael Hayward.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents one sister Bonnie Hayward and one brother, Roger Parrott.

Visitation will be from noon until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service for Mrs. Fitzsimmons will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, West of Danville. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Hass-Thielen Community Room following the interment.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Community Foundation of Des Moines County.
